Ravenna provides Slack shortcuts that allow you to quickly create tickets and perform actions directly from message context menus. Shortcuts offer an alternative to emoji reactions for users who prefer menu-based interactions.

Message shortcuts

Message shortcuts appear in the context menu of any message in Slack, providing quick access to Ravenna actions without needing to remember emoji reactions.

Create a ticket

The primary message shortcut creates a new ticket from any message in a connected channel.
1

Open message menu

Hover over any message and click the message menu button (three dots).
2

Select Create a ticket

Select “Create a ticket” from the shortcuts menu.
3

Ticket created

Ravenna creates a ticket from the message and its thread, just like using the 🎫 emoji.
Message shortcuts work the same way as emoji reactions - one ticket per thread. If a ticket already exists for the thread, the shortcut will reference the existing ticket.

Shortcuts vs Emoji Actions

Both shortcuts and emoji actions accomplish similar goals, but each has advantages:
  • Emoji Actions can be congigured to trigger multiple actions (e.g., create a ticket and assign it to a user) with a single reaction. Shortcuts currently only support one action per shortcut.
  • Message shortcuts work inside any channel, thread, or DM, even if Ravenna is not present. This makes them ideal for quickly creating tickets from messages in private conversations or channels where Ravenna is not installed. Emoji actions require Ravenna to be a member of the channel.
